FULL TRANSCRIPT:
Welcome to Vegan Bytes, your go-to source for all things vegan. Today, we're diving into the world of veganism among students, a group that's doubling down on plant-based diets compared to the general population.
Now, we all know that students are often on a tight budget, and recent research from the Vegan Society shows that 28% of students believe a vegan diet is too expensive. But hold on to your tofu, folks, because this perception is about to be debunked.
You see, vegan sources of protein like lentils, peanut butter, and beans are some of the cheapest food options out there. And guess what? Nearly half of vegan students say that vegan catering options on campus are affordable. In fact, 87% of students interested in veganism would consider adopting a vegan diet if it was proven to be more affordable than a non-vegan diet.
So, the Vegan Society is stepping up to the plate, or should we say, the salad bowl, to tackle this misconception head-on. They've made membership free for those under 26 and have created resources to show just how affordable a vegan lifestyle can be.
Hannah Coyne, Campaigns Manager for the Vegan Society, says, "A shift in lifestyle and purchasing habits might seem daunting, especially for those under financial strain, but a plant-based diet can be affordable and often much cheaper than a non-vegan one."
So, students, it's time to swap that ramen for some lentils. With the Vegan Society's resources, you can make the switch to a vegan diet without breaking the bank.
That's it for today's episode of Vegan Bytes. Remember, veganism isn't just a diet, it's a lifestyle, and it's more affordable than you think.
